SPRINGFIELD - Earl Clinton Barton, 78, of Springfield died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at his home. He was born March 31, 1924, in Springfield, the son of Oretae J. and Eugenia Coulter Barton. He married Joyce Oller in 1946. Mr. Barton was a sales associate for Hush Puppies, Myers Brothers, Bergner's and Montgomery Ward. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Triple A 145, which fought in the Battle of the Bulge and crossed the Rhine River into Munich, Germany, under Gen. George Patton. He was a member of the Springfield Muni Fast Pitch Softball League from 1948-62 and an umpire for the Decatur Merchants Fast Pitch Softball League from 1968-70. Survivors: wife, Joyce; a son, Brad E. Barton of Auburn; a daughter, Brenda Barton (husband, Erick Taylor) of Wisconsin; a brother, Gale (wife, Bonnie) Barton of Willcox, Ariz.; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Friday at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, the Rev. Gary Nelsen officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery.
