During the war he sustained a head wound forcing him into a prolonged stay at a hospital in Belfast Ireland and later in Salsbury, England. During the stay he met and eventually married a nurse named Marjorie Stoddard. They were married 17 July, 1943 in Salsbury, England.
Pat owned and operated "Patterson Funeral Supply" from 1947 until the 1980s.
Pat was an active Shriner while they lived in Springfield, Missouri.
He was a baritone singer. Sang in Barber Shop Quartets early in life. In the 1930s he sang on the radio in a small Kansas town.
