Bill married Nell Rodgers soon after he entered the Air Force and they had two children before divorcing in the 1980s. His second and lasting marriage was to widow Betty Jean Poarch (nee Lewis).

After his military retirement, Bill worked 17 years for the South Carolina Department of Corrections and 13 years as a security officer with Richland School District.

His obituary in The State (Columbia, S.C.) newspaper relates that he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite, and the Jamil Shrine Temple. A PERSONAL NOTE: Bill and I first met in May 1967 when we were both assigned to the Air Police Squadron at Sembach Air Base, Germany. We became friends while awaiting arrival of our families. Our wives and children immediately formed friendships that contined far into the future. Bill and I had differing assignments when we left Germany in 1970, but maintained contact. We meet again as I passed thru Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Vietnam. Our families reconnected in visits after our Air Force retirements. He was my friend!
