Thompson was the son of Rev. James Calfee and Elizabeth Virginia Bailey.

T.M. Calfee Dead
T.M. Calfee, aged fifty-five years, a pioneer citizen of this section, died Tuesday night at 8:30 o'clock at the family home on Walton Avenue. The deceased had been ill for the past five years, having suffered with paralysis. He was well known throughout the county, being related to practically all of the families that first settled in this community. He is survived by eight sisters and one brother. The funeral service will be held from the home this afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.H. Bass, of the Christian Church, assisted by Rev. W. S. Bullard of Tazewell. Interment will be made in the Calfee Cemetery in south Bluefield.
