John Clouse, one of the best known among the old time Ward county settlers, passed to his reward Thursday morning, Aug. 15 at his home up the Mouse River valley beyond Burlington. The cause of his death was heart disease and complications from which he had been suffering for two years.
Mr. Clouse was born in Wisconsin in 1842 and lived there until he grew to manhood. In June 1883, he came to North Dakota with his family settling near Burlington. He was a prosperous farmer and lived so that all respected him.
He leaves besides his wife, ten children, who are: Nick, Frank, William, John, Michael, Leo and George, and Eva, Lizzie and Mary.
Mr. Clouse was an old soldier having fought in the war of the Rebellion, enlisting in Wisconsin.
The funeral was held from the Catholic church at Foxholm, Saturday, and despite the condition of the roads, a large crowd gathered to pay their last respects to a good neighbor and friend. Interment occurred at the Foxholm cemetery.
