Marion Bostwick Carle was born October 6, 1870, in the family home at 524 East Court Street in Janesville. She was one of 12 children born to Joseph M. Bostwick. He had 9 chidren with Harriet Allen Bostwick and 3 with his second wife. Marion married Norman Carle on June 7, 1893, and they had five children. During WWI, she was in charge of knitting classes which made socks and mufflers for the troops, and she sponsored a war movie at the Beverly Theater to raise money for the doughboys. The government cited her for her service. Until she lost her sight in 1941, she played golf at the Janesville Country Club where she was a charter member. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. After the loss of her vision, she enjoyed listening to the radio and could recite poetry she remembered. She also continued to compose poetry. Marion passed away at the age of 102 on December 13, 1972. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1941, and four of her five children.

Marion's marker has 1870 but her earlier travel records indicated she was born in 1871. She still lived beyond a 100 years.
