Rodney Looman Dotson passed away on October 16, 2012 at his home in Martinsburg at the age of 54 after a nine month battle with lung cancer.

He was the third child of Fred McKendry and Emma Jean (Keys) Dotson (formerly of Tyler County, WV). Born on August 28, 1958 in Washington, DC, Rodney was raised in Alexandria, VA, he graduated from Hayfield Secondary School in 1977. He learned the trade of auto mechanics from his father, which led him to take vocational tech classes while in high school. His entire career was as a mechanic, the last 29 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was employed for 18 years with Prince William Construction Company (later APAC), in Manassas, VA. The last five years he was employed with Snyder Environmental Services in Kearneysville, WV.

Rodney was married to his wife for 30 years. Together they had two children, a daughter and a son, who both still reside at the home. Besides his wife and children, Rodney is survived by two brothers. Rodney also leaves behind a special uncle and aunt, several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Rodney is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Karen Jean Osborne.

Rodney was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg for 8 years and while living in Culpeper, VA, had been a member of Mitchells Presbyterian Church for 15 years. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as, his church family, having a special place in his heart for the youth, accompanying them on several missions trips over the years.

Rodney enjoyed helping people, hunting and fishing, square dancing with his wife, staying in touch with family and friends, spending time with his rescued cats, reading action adventure books, playing practical jokes, and sharing a cup of coffee in the morning at the King Street Rocs store with friends.

Special thanks to all those involved in his care, especially Dr. Terrence Reidy, City Hospital, Winchester Medical Center and Hospice of the Panhandle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your church, Hospice of the Panhandle or the American Cancer Society.
