The remains of Billy Ray Banks was first interred in the American Cemetery # 1, Marigny, France, Plot R, Row 9, Grave 173. It was four years before the government arranged for his remains to be returned home to be reburied.

REBURIAL SERVICE FOR PVT BILLY RAY BANKS HELD LAST FRIDAY
Reburial services were held on last Friday afternoon for Pvt. Billy Ray Banks, son of Mr and Mrs C B Banks of Iowa Park. The body of Private Banks returned home four years after he had given his life in battle for his country on August 1, 1944, in the grim battle of the Bulge.
His body was escourted homeward by CPL. Percy S Deviney of the U S Army. After the arrrival in Thornton the remains, in a flag draped casket, was brought to the home of his grandmother, Mrs. N. H. Banks, until the service at the cemetery, where Brother J.C. Tate, minister of the Wichita Falls Church of Christ, officated. An impressive service, recalling the highlights of the short life of Billy Ray was before a hugh crowd and manifested by beautiful floral tributes.
Billy Ray was a native of Thornton, having been born here April 7, 1925. At age of 9 he moved with his parents to Iowa Park where he attended school and graduated in 1942.
It was during these years that he gained the love and esteem of all his teachers and friends. He was voted the most handsome and also the most representative boy of the school for two years. He entered the service in November 1943, receiving his training at FT. Sill, Oklahoma. In April of 1944 he went overseas and the following August was killed in action.
In additional to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Jack and Jimmy and two grandmothers, Mrs. N H Banks and Mrs J L Fenner of Willingotn, California.
Among the many realtives and friends here for the funeral service were Brother and Mrs H C Tate, Mr and Mrs Floyd Stermer, Mr Sonny Morris, Mrs. Tim Tidwell, Mrs Annie Guthrie, Mrs George Smith, all of Wichita Falls; Mr and Mrs James Fenner, Mrs Mildred Lambert of Iowa Park, Mr and Mrs D C Edwards, Henderson; Mr and Mrs. Virgil Archer and Mrs. Duncan Pollock, Dallas; Mr and Mrs K L Fenner, Luders; Mr and Mrs George F Korneck and baby daughter of Houston; Mr and Mrs Ivan Banks and daughter and Mrs Rhoda Watford of Corsicana and Mr and Mrs H C Banks and family of Fort Worth.
Pallbearers were Luther Ellis, E S Ellis, Elmer Lenamond, Sonny Morris, Floyd Stermer, and Lem Tidwell. Fisher and Nance were in charge of all arrangements.
