Carlos was born and raised in Silver City and graduated from the Silver City High School with the Class of 1966.
He enlisted in the Marines 27 May 1966, at the El Paso Recruiting Office in Texas and left 8 August for San Diego MCRD for his boot camp training.
Carlos arrived in Vietnam 20 November 1967, where he was assigned to Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. While on Hill 861A, 5 kilometers northwest of
Khe Sanh Airfield, the company perimeter was hit by hostile incoming artillery fire. Carlos died as a result of a massive concussion to the body when the bunker he was in took a direct hit from an artillery shell. Four other Marines died during the artillery strike.
Carlos was single and served his country for 1 year, 8 months and 28 days and was KIA #22,886.
He had been in Vietnam for 3 months and 4 days and was 20 years, 2 months and 11 days old.
Survived by his parents, Arturo and Luz Cruz Aguirre Sr, and Albert Angel Aguirre of 400 Corbin St, Silver City, New Mexico and his brothers; Tommy and Arthur Aguirre Jr of Silver City, New Mexico and his sister and brother-in-law and Zenaide and Richard Rivera of Lus Cruces, New Mexico.
