Thomas E. Bedortha

Funeral services were held for Thomas E. Bedortha, 87, of Tillamook on Nov. 6 at Waud's Funeral Home, with Rev. Nancy Edwards officiating.

Mr. Bedortha, who was born Jan. 19, 1902 in Bridgeman [sic], Mich., died Nov. 3 at a local care facility, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Bridgeman, Michigan to William and Mae Bedortha, Thoms came to Oregon at the age of 15, and moved to Blaine. He worked at several locations in the Northwest before he settled in Tillamook in 1925.

In 1926, he was united in marriage to the former Edna Withrow and settled on Bewley Creek. He worked for the Coats Lumber company for 30 years, and worked for Crown Zellerbach Co. until his retirement.

Mr. Bedortha enjoyed working in his woodworking shop, making projects for his many grandchildren. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Grange, also a member of the Tillamook Elks Lodge, and he was a Tillamook County Pioneer.

In 1979, Mr. Bedortha was preceded in death by his wife Edna of 53 years. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley, who died in 1982. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

He is survived by three sons, Kenneth of Tillamook, Franklin and Keith, both of Springfield; a daughter, Jennie Lee Bedortha of Tillamook; a sister, Adaline Bennett of Vancouver, Wash.; and nine step-brothers and sister. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Gunder, Ken Buckard, John Buckard, John Reiger, and Save Schluckebier. Honorary bearer was Don Smith.

Shirley Christensen served as soloist, and JoAnn Widmer organist.

Interment was held in the Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Tillamook, with arrangements under the care of Waud's Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Easter Seals Society.
