EMERY "BEN" HOLMAN, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at his home.

Born on March 31, 1929 on the family farm in Geuda Springs, Kansas, he was the son of Orville Bryan and Pauline Constance (Suddeth) Holman. He received his early education in Geuda Springs and later in Winfield where he graduated from Winfield High School in 1946.

Ben worked in the oilfields before serving his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1952. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Winfield and did custom cutting and harvest work.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Maxine Halling on March 1, 1942 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple made their home in Winfield and he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for 9 years. Ben was then employed for the United States Postal Service and worked for 24 ½ years as a postal clerk in Winfield.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #165 in Oxford, Kansas, Order of the Eastern Star #138 and the American Legion Post #10 in Winfield. Ben loved attending the grandchildren's ball games, gardening, playing cards, and crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He enjoyed attending family reunions where he was organizer and historian and attended veterans reunions as well.

His family includes: His wife: Maxine of the home; His son: Mike Holman and wife Dianna of Columbus, KS; His daughters: Dr. Beverly Rogers and husband Dr. Dan Rogers of Manhattan, KS; and Kathy Waite and husband Justin of Winfield, KS; His brother: Jim Holman of Arnold, NE; His sister: Christine Fox and husband Edgar of Springfield, MO; His brother-in-law: Charles White of Axton, VA; His grandchildren: Ashleigh Mengarelli and husband Dustin of Topeka, KS; Jared Rogers of Manhattan, KS; Joe Holman and wife Ashton of Chanute, KS; Nicholas Ben Holman and Anna Holman both of Columbus, KS; Arista Groom and husband Cameron of Winfield, KS; and Logan Waite of Winfield, KS; and His great-grandchildren: Cooper and Keaton Mengarelli of Topeka, KS. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy White and Della Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment with Masonic Committal Honors will follow at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 4, 2013. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M., that evening.

Memorials have been established in Ben's name for the Shriner's Children Hospital in St. Louis and the Winfield Isle of Lights. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
