Carmen Janette Curtis, the daughter of the late Otto and Marie (Perleberg) Wollin, was born on August 13, 1916 at Hoffman, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. The family moved to northern Minnesota when she was a young girl, first north of Greenbush, then near Donaldson and finally to a farm east of Karlstad. She graduated from Karlstad High School in 1936. On November 15, 1942, Carmen was united in marriage to Ernest A. Curtis at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. For many years, they were members of St. John's Episcopal Church, the church that Ernie's family attended. Following the closure of St. John's, she joined First Lutheran Church of Karlstad. For a while, Ernie and Carmen owned a café at Noyes, MN. After selling the café, Carmen went to work for the former Rustad Grocery Store and Post Office at Noyes, working as a clerk and later becoming postmaster in 1961. Following Ernie's death in 1966, Carmen moved the post office across the street and into her home. The post office was the center of the Noyes community and you could often find Carmen entertaining residents and serving up hot meals to railroad workers in addition to handling the mail. While she loved Noyes, the annual spring floods made it difficult to stay so, with some reluctance, she moved her home to Karlstad following her retirement in 1991. Since September, Carmen resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center where she passed away on Monday morning November 14, 2011, at the age of 95 years 3 months and one day. Carmen will long be remembered for her engaging smile, generous spirit and unwavering love of the Minnesota Twins Carmen is survived by one sister Florence Peterson of Inver Grove Heights, MN; one brother Bob (Betty) Wollin of Greenbush; one sister-in-law Marjorie Wollin of Karlstad; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Carmen was preceded in death by her husband Ernie, her parents, four sisters Mandeline Wollin, Mabel Sovde, Lorrayne Mortensen and Elmira Brekke, and five brothers Lawrence, Clarence, George, Willis and Harley Wollin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thur. at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Wed. with a 7 P.M. prayer service at our Karlstad chapel and at the church one hour prior to services on Thur.
