Bio

I was born in Grand Rapids in 1950, and raised in Kent City, Michigan. I was raised less than a mile from Idlewild Cemetery which is on 18 Mile Road just west of Barber Creek Road in Tyrone Township of Kent Couty. The family home was on Sparta Avenue between 17 and 18 Mile. When I was a child growing up Idlewild Cemetery was called Snow Cemetery. My parents and many friends are buried in Idlewild Cemetery. I attended the small Country Church located in the Cemetery, this used to be called Snow Church, and I attended the one room school house within view of the Cemetery, this was Snow School. I have done family history work since I was about 12 years old. My mother's family is all Dutch, with my mom being first generation born in U.S.A. That research was a challenge but fun. My father's family are among some of the earliest pioneers to Monroe, Barry and Ionia Counties in Michigan. I was very active in the Kent City Historical Society from its begining til in 1981 tilabout 1994. During this time I was able to copy the Sexton records for Idlewild and Pinewood Cemeteries. This is the information I am now entering on find a grave. From 1976-1994, I owned a home and lived on Fruit Ridge between 20 and 21 mile road. This was the Old Holmgren farm. It had been owned by 4 generations of the family until my ex-wife and I bought the buildings and small amount of the land. I lived there 18 years. The home was very close to the Pinewood Cemetery. In the spring of 1988, I transcribed the entire Pinewood Cemetery which is on the corner of 21 Mile Road and Peach RIdge Avenue in Tyrone Township. This information is part of what I am now entering. Pinewood Cemetery originally was called Chubbuck Cemetery. Not far from Pinewood Cemetery on 21 Mile Rd. and a little west of the Cemetery is an old Country one room school house building which at one time was the Chubbuck School. Many of the locals still call Pinewood Cemetery: Chubbuck. I lived in Palm Springs, California from 2007 to 2015. During that time I returned to Kent City a couple times a year. I have two adult daughters who live there yet and one brother. I returned mid August 2014 to Michigan to live permanently. When I returned I began voluntering at the Kent City Historical Society Museum which I am still doing in 2022. If any of the information I've submitted is inaccurate/incomplete, or if I can be of help in any way. My goal is to help fellow researchers find their family. I will gladly make any corrections requested. With the exception of my family I will transfer any memorials requested.
