Mary Elizabeth was the first born child to James Joshua Thigpen and Frances ("Fannie") Caroline Wynn.
Shortly after their marriage, her parents moved from Russell Co., Ala. along with numerous other related families, to Clarksville, Arkansas. A few months after her birth, her parents moved back to Uchee, Ala. and it is there she met and later married John Canty Arrant, her husband of 61 years. They married in 1907 and their union was blessed with five children.
"Miss Mary" was a talented seamstress, and she throughly enjoyed cooking and baking, especially the old recipes of her mother's.
