On August 4, 1923, he was married to Sudie Jane Howard, of Corbin, KY. They lived in Loyall, KY, and raised three sons, Charles E., Jr (1924), George A. (1927), and Homer Harrison (1929). Ed Martin served on the City Council in Loyall, and his wife was the City Clerk. Ed was also a member of the Loyall Volunteer Fire Department and, as he was a boilermaker, built one of their fire engines. Ed was a founding member of the Loyall Church of Christ, and was an active member of the Masonic bodies, including York Rite, Scottish Rite, Knight Templars, and the Shrine.
After suffering from a long illness, Ed Martin passed away on August 22, 1946, at his home in Loyall, KY.
