Born in New Haven NY, the daughter of Alva Augustus Spaulding and Aurel Drake. She married Anthony Thomas Surdam on January 1, 1854 in Chester, OH. They had three children, Mary, Martha, and William before Anthony's death while serving in the Civil War. She settled with her children in Tuscola County, MI where she married Michael Buchanan, himself a widower with three children, on June 27, 1864. Together they had three children, Alva, Ira, and Ida. After Michael's death of tuberculosis in 1873, she married Walter Sharp on September 26, 1880. She married a fourth time on May 4, 1883 to Ebenezer Warn, whose son Charles was married to her daughter, Ida. She spent the last years of her life as an invalid, stricken with paralysis. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Warn in Cass City, MI having survived four husbands. She was 74.
