All Union Soldiers' remains were removed from the Augusta City Cemetery (now called Magnolia Cemetery) to Marietta National Cemetery in 1867. Over 160 soldiers were originally buried at Augusta, Ga., but this VC contains only the POWs from 1863 and 1864.

Buried by the Rebels in Augusta City Cemetery in the SE corner of the cemetery.

The first row numbered from No. 489 to No. 528 inclusive. Forty (40) bodies was buried next to the wall & were exhumed from South to North. [Break in grave numbers in middle of first row. Ergo, men buried together at Augusta are separated in the national cemetery.]
