Major League Baseball Player. Born in Los Angeles, California, he was a catcher making his debut with the New York Giants on July 30, 1933. Nicknamed ‘The Horse' for ten seasons, he played with the New York Giants (1933-42), was selected for the National League All-Star team four consecutive years (1938–41) and led all National League catchers with a .991 fielding average in 1939. He ended his career with a record of 847 hits, 363 runs scored, 57 homeruns, 397 runs batted in and a .285 batting average. He died at age 93 in Valparaiso, Indiana.
