Irvin Bennett, 91 of Downing, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri where he had been a resident since May 2012.

The son of Roy and Elma (Sommers) Bennett, he was born on October 1, 1921 in Downing, Missouri. He attended Brush Creek School during grade school. On June 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marylu Jeffries and to this union three children were born, Janet, Roger and Jeff.

Survivors include his wife, Marylu Bennett of Downing, Missouri; children, Janet Blaise of Downing, Missouri, Roger Bennett and wife, Debra of Kirksville, Missouri and Jeff Bennett and wife, Missy of Downing, Missouri; 9 grandchildren, David Lynn Blaise and wife, Cheryl of Ottumwa, Iowa, Jennifer Mayers and husband, Eli of Adams, Tennessee, Brian Blaise and wife, Sheila of Queen City, Missouri, Sabrina Bennett of Mexico, Missouri, Taylor Bennett of Columbia, Missouri, Tabitha Aguero and husband, Mario of Kirksville, Missouri, Amber Miller of Downing, Missouri, Jessica and Shelby Bennett both of Downing, Missouri; 4 great grandchildren, Karenza and Keily Blaise of Queen City, Missouri, Grace Mayers of Adams, Tennessee and Hailey Aguero of Kirksville, Missouri; nieces & nephews and other family members.

Irvin is preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Helen Parks and 1 brother, Floyd Bennett.

Irvin served in the United States Navy from October 3, 1942 and received an honorable discharge on February 5, 1946. He served overseas in Pearl Harbor, Guam and Siapan and received the Asiatic Pacific medal, Victory medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Medal.

Irvin was a life member of the VFW, American Legion and Charter member of World War II in Washington D.C. War Memorial.

After serving in the United States Navy, Irvin came home and took over the family farm raising Registered Duroc Hogs. He also was a sheep shearer for 50 years and worked for the ASCS Office for 20 years.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith officiating. Organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, Schelle Cooley, will provide music. Special selections will be "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross".

Pallbearers will be Larry Aeschliman, Jerry Scurlock, Charles Comstock, Eddie Norman, Homer Jarvis and Ron Gardner. Honorary pallbearers will be E. Richard Weber, Royce Jeffries, Jim Starbuck, Jack Padget, Al Erwin and Jimmy Shaw.

Visitation will Missouri be held one hour prior to the services at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Nutrition Site in Lancaster, Missouri and the Scotland County VFW in Memphis, Missouri.

Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery northeast of Lancaster, Missouri. The Scotland County VFW Post 4958 in Memphis, Missouri will conduct military rites.
