The oldest of 11, Grandpa had responsibility early in life. He was born to Bert and Kate (de Kam) Van Kampen in 1910. He got into the dairy business early on in life and was the manager of the Producers creamery for a while when he lived in Michigan. In 1932 he met my Grandmother, Doris Cole at a church function. They both said that they knew from the start they were meant for each other. They married and had two children, Don and two years later Ruth. In 1967 they moved to Florida and opened an ice cream soft serve store. It was an independent, but they gave the DQ a run for their money.
In 1987, Grandpa had a massive stroke, he never recovered and passed away three weeks later. Grandma never got over loosing him. They were married almost 56 years. Today, they are together again and I hope one day to see them.
