Gregorio Trujillo
Durango resident Gregorio Trujillo died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. He was 12 days shy of his 94th birthday.
Mr. Trujillo was born to Raymondo and Adelina (Martinez) Trujillo on Nov. 17, 1918, in Leadville. His family moved to Oxford when he was a boy.
In the early 1940s, he married Ada Rodriquez in Durango.
He served in the Army infantry during World War II. Mr. Trujillo was in the European Theater and fought at D-Day on the beaches of Normandy, France.
After the war, he returned to Durango, working as a coremaker at the foundry. The Trujillos moved to Salt Lake City in the late 1950s, where Mr. Trujillo was a custodian in the Salt Lake City schools.
He moved back to Durango in the early 2000s.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4031 in Durango.
In his younger years, he loved to fish and hunt.
He is survived by his son, Jerry Lucero of Salt Lake City; sisters Josie Herrera and Mercedes Rodriquez, both of Durango, Maria Martinez of Oxford, Benita Olguin of Tiffany and Mary Ventura Chavez of Farmington; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 East Fifth Ave. A memorial Mass will be celebrated immediately after the rosary, also at Sacred Heart.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Durango. Burial with full military honors will take place after the service at Greenmount Cemetery.
