"Martha M. Heim, 84, of Easton, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the St. John Hospital of Leavenworth, one year to the day that her husband, Harold B. Heim Sr., passed away. She married Harold on Feb. 20, 1943, at the St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church of Easton.

She was born the daughter of Alfred J. and Martha (Richstatter) Bromell on Dec. 31, 1919, in Leavenworth. Martha raised her family and worked with her husband as a dairy and grain farmer and had owned and operated Heim Lake until retiring in 1996. Martha lived in the Leavenworth area all of her life and graduated from St. Mary's as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Altar Society and was a CCD teacher for many years. Martha was very involved with 4-H and her two great passions were her flowers and quilting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she touched many lives and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Richard E. and Linda Heim of Easton, Jerry L. and Sandy Heim of Leavenworth, and H.B. and Sandra Heim of McLouth; brother, John Bromel, and sister, Lydia Heintzelman, both of Leavenworth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband of more than 60 years, Harold, and sisters, Essie Lallier and Ann Sachse, all preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, with rosary said at 7 p.m. at the St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church, 31151 207th St. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel and at the church after 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial officiated by the Rev. John Ayang will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the church followed by burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church or to Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program, both in care of the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, 500 Oak St., Leavenworth, 682-1614." Leavenworth Times (Leavenworth, Kansas), November 22, 2004
