LYDIA MARIE BROMELL HEINTZELMAN
Lydia Marie Heintzelman, 105, of Leavenworth, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, at St. John Hospital. She was born June 5, 1918, in rural Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of Emory Alfred and Martha Mary (Richstatter) Bromell.
She attended the Bell one-room rural school and, at the age of 23, married Joseph "Joe" Heintzelman. Lydia was a housewife and a mom; she spent her life on the Heintzelman homestead. She was an excellent cook, specializing in homemade pies and vegetable beef soup.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Lonnie) Phillips of Leavenworth, Kan.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Martha; husband, Joe; brother, John and his wife Norma Bromell; sister, Ann and her husband, Herman Sachse; sister, Martha and her husband, Harold Heim; sister, Essie and her husband, Gene Lallier; and children, Regina, Thomas "Tommy," Donald "Donnie'," Ruth and Daniel "Danny".
Visitation beginning with praying the rosary will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at St. Joseph of the Valley Church, with Fr. William McEvoy as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lansing, Kan. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph of the Valley Church.
