Adolph Edelman Buried Under Fallen Roof in South Wilkes-Barre Mine

Adolph Edelman, a miner, was killed, and Harley J. Savage, aged 21, his laborer, was seriously injured in a, fall of rock which occurred yesterday morning about 8:10 o'clock as they were at work in South Wilkes-Barre colliery of Lehigh & Wilkes-Barre Coal Company which resumed operations yesterday after having been closed by a strike rime Wednesday of last week. Mr. Edelman, who lives at 440 South Main Street, was instantly killed and his body, in a mangled condition. was removed to Knifan's morgue and later to his home. Mr. Savage resides at 66 Church street, where he is suffering from a possible fracture of the right leg, which was badly crushed, and numerous bruises about his body.
The accident happened in a mine chamber where Edelman and Savage were working together. Some coal had just been blasted when a section of the roof dropped. Miners working nearby heard the crash and the rush of coal tore away the timbers. A rescue. squad was immediately summoned and, succeeded in extricating Savage, who was made a prisoner by the fallen roof. Edelman was not reached, however, until half an hour's effort, his body having been completely concealed from view and the rescuers used picks and shovels to uncover it.
Mr. Edelman had melded in this city for a number of years and was well known in the South Wilkes-Barre section. He was a member of the Beneficiary Union and of St Clement's Church. Surviving are his wife and two sons, John and Lewis; also four brothers, Charles of this city, Rudolph and Richard of Indiana, and Lewis of Atlantic City, N. J.
