On Nov. 17, 2012, Arlene Anderson passed away at her home from pancreatic cancer surrounded by her family. The courage, dignity, and bravery that she exhibited in her final days were indicators of her strength, determination, and unwavering faith. Known for her calm demeanor, caring nature, and unconditional love for her family, she will be forever missed.

Arlene was born on March 10, 1941, in Butte to Jim and Cecelia (LaPalm) Hill. She was the older of two children. She attended local schools and graduated from Butte High School in 1959, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.

Immediately after graduation, Arlene went to work as a stenographer for the FBI in Butte. It was there that she met her life-long love, Tom Anderson. She worked at the FBI for about a year before she moved to Las Vegas to be with her family. The distance only made Arlene and Tom's relationship stronger, and they were married on April 8, 1961, in St. Bridgette's Cathedral in Las Vegas. After their wedding, Tom and Arlene returned to Butte and spent 51 wonderful years together.

Their marriage was highlighted last year with a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration hosted by their children that brought together a large group of friends and family. Together, they raised four wonderful children and were blessed with eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arlene's greatest joys in life all focused around her family. She specifically loved spending time with her grandkids, where she established many lasting traditions, including making holiday cookies and decorating Christmas calendars. She also was a regular attendee at all of her kids' and grandkids' sporting events. She traveled extensively in support of the Bulldogs and Maroons and even to Wyoming for the Camels and to North Dakota for the Jamestown Jimmies. She recently became a season-ticket holder for the Montana Grizzlies football team and thoroughly enjoyed every game.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Arlene was also a dedicated employee of New York Life. After over 20 years of service, she retired in 2000. During her employment with New York Life, she forged many wonderful relationships.

Arlene also enjoyed numerous special friendships that she nurtured over the years, many with friends that she has had since high school. She also formed close relationships with her neighbors and her children's spouses and in-laws. Her kindness and love were far reaching, as every neighborhood child for the last 51 years has been made to feel loved and always welcome in her house. She was also a devout Catholic and was a member of St. John's and St. Ann's parishes.

Arlene's younger brother, Jim (Jimmo) Hill, with whom she was very close, preceded her in death, as did her parents and her in-laws, Gene and Inez Anderson, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Arlene is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, Tom Anderson of Butte; sons and daughters-in-law: Mike and Lisa Anderson of Gillette, Wyo., and Steve and Susie Anderson of Butte; daughters and sons-in-law: Cyndy and Toby Richards and Theresa and Chris Conway, all of Butte; grandchildren: Ashleigh (Alan) Stuber, Michaela and Briana Anderson of Gillette, Wyo., Jonathan, Ryan, and Aaron Richards of Butte, and Rachel and Evan Anderson of Butte; great-grandchild Brian Stuber of Gillette, Wyo.; niece: Cheri Hill of Newport Beach, Calif.; nephews: Jim (Laurie) Hill of Newport Beach, Calif. and Bill Hill of North Hollywood, Calif.; and numerous cousins, including best friend/cousin Rita Stetzner. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Monte.

Arlene's remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home. Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in St. Ann's Catholic Church with a Parish Vigil being conducted at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. Entombment will be in the Ascension Mausoleum in Mountain View Cemetery. Arlene has requested, in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to Friends of Hospice or similar organizations of the donor's choice.
