After being widowed, John married Emily I or J (Emma) Smith Matheny on the 21st day of January 1914 in Beckley, Raleigh County, West Virginia. He appears to have no surviving children with Emma, she had at least 1 son, Charles E Matheny from her previous husband, William.
John and Laura's known children are:
Willie Lee Grear Via (1886–between 1921 & 1925)
George W Grear (1888–1907)
James Pinkney Grear (1891–1977)
Lonnie Edgar Grear (1894–1965)
Ardelia Belle (Delia) Grear Sumner (1896–1979)
Louisa Grear (1898–)
John Franklin Grear, Junior (1901–1984)
Note, there was at least one more child, because in Laura's 1900 United States census record, she had given birth to 7 children, but only 6 were living.
