Barbara owned and operated Barb's Beauty Shop in South Roxana, Illinois for 10 years. Jack served in the United States Air Force for 30 years. After his retirement, he was employed by the Roxana School District and Vandalia Bus Lines.
The Hills were members of the First Southern Baptist Church in South Roxana, Illinois.

At the time of her death at Wood River Township Hospital, Barbara was 64 years, 3 months and 20 days old.
She was survived by her husband, Jack; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law; 1 son and daughter-in-law; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Jim and Norma Oliver of Springfield, Missouri, and Bill Oliver of St. James, Missouri; and 3 sisters and brothers-in-law; Marie and Art Borger of Granite City, Illinois, Dorothy and Glen Austin of Hardy, Arkansas, and Lavern and Bud Smith of South Roxana.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Donna Sue Freiner; and 1 sister, Henrietta Oliver.
Visitation was held on 14 Oct 1998 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. the following morning at the First Southern Baptist Church in South Roxana.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the American Cancer Society.
