James W. Ward Sr., 80, passed away Friday, June 30, 2006.
Jim was born in Knoxville, Tenn., on March 15, 1926, to Phinas and Rose Ward. He lived in Akron, Ohio, in the Firestone Park area until 1977. He then retired from Ward Tip Top Bakery and moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he retired from Babcock & Wilcox in 1987. Jim recently moved to Thomasville, N.C. He served in the Navy during World War II. He met his future wife, Marion, in 1946 while he was singing with the Johnny Martone Band. They married and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Las Vegas with their children. He was passionate about singing and writing haiku poetry. Jim published his book of haiku poetry, "My Thoughts," in 2004.Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marion, on May 24 2006. He was also preceded in death by sons, Joseph and Jon Ward. He is survived by children, Claudia (Mike) Williams of St. Petersburg, Fla., Diana Lynn (Jack) Williamson of Akron, Ohio, James (Yvonne) Ward of Irving, Texas, Becky (Dana) Lawrentz of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Robin (Frank) Kriz of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Jeff (Becky) Ward of Powells Point, N.C. He is also survived by his loving sister, JoAnne Tysinger of Trinity, N.C., and sisters-in-law, Margaret Gasper and Molly (Gary) Sheldon. Jim is survived by 13 grandchildren, Darlene, Michael, Tracy, Patrick, Kerry, Andrea, Brandy, Ashley, Alyssa, Angela, Nikolaus, Felecia, and Joseph. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at 10 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Romig Road.
