On Aug. 24, 1922, a little girl was born, a little girl that like so many of you, had to grow up quick. So at about age 9, she got voluntarily pulled out of school and worked at several factories in South Philadelphia during the days of the depression, then for Sears and Roebuck.
Later on in life, she found the love of her life, Samuel R. Garwood, and loved him till the day he died. They had two children, Robert and Janice.
As of late, as her body was slowing down, she mentioned she wished she could do more with her hands, but like so many mothers, she didn't realize how much she does with her heart. Though there would be so much more to say, some people's lives can be summed up in one sentence, 'Preach the gospel at all times, when necessary use words.' ~ St. Francis of Assisi.
Even though after five minutes, she could make you feel like family, she always believed in family first. So she did say to tell each and every one of you, she loves you and will get to see you later!
But at the wishes of me and my sister, the viewing and service will be private except for a few very close friends and family, which my sister and I have requested the honor of your presence. However, unfortunately for a lot of us, but fortunately for her, she will not be present, because she is now in the Presence of The Lord. Her burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Messages of sympathy may be emailed to her family through the funeral home's web site below.
