Myrtle Smithson (1914-2012)

SHERMAN – Services for Myrtle Juanita Bloxom Smithson of Sherman will be held at 11 a.m. at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 with burial to follow at Akers Cemetery. Rev. Harold Jaco of Jackson, Tenn. and Dennis Garland of Fairview Baptist Church will officiate the service. Mrs. Smithson passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at Texoma Health Care Center at the age of 98. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 from 6 - 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. until Service time on Thursday. Family members will service as pallbearers.

Myrtle was born on Oct. 1, 1914 in Montague, the daughter of J. W. and Mary Elizabeth Richardson Bloxom and was a 1932 graduate of Sherman High School. She married Johnie Y. Smithson on March 9, 1934 in Sherman.

A homemaker, she became a member of the HiWay Home Demonstration Club in 1964 serving as treasurer. In 1993 she was selected as Woman of the Year for the Grayson County Extension Homemakers Achievement Day Celebration. Myrtle was a Christian and a faithful, active member in her church. She was a member of the Christian Life Church in Sherman.

Mrs. Smithson is survived by sons, Jack Smithson and wife Peggy of Sherman and James Smithson and wife Johnnie of Kingston, Okla.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in heath are her husband, daughter Juanita Smithson Jaco, parents, and sisters Margaruite Jeter, Ora Navarre and Thelma Bond.
