Jasper E. Hope, 87, of Blue Springs Parkway, died Tuesday morning at Laughlin Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Hope retired from North American Philips after 29 years of service, having started to work for the company when it was Magnavox.

He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.

Those close to him knew Mr. Hope as a loving father, and grandfather, and as one who was a kind and loving friend to all.

He was the widower of Margaret Hankins Hope, his wife of 55 years, and a son of the late John and Virginia Hope.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law: Lanny Hope of the home and Billy and Norma Jean Hope of Greeneville; two daughters and a son-in-law: Carolyn Helton of Bean Station and Mary and Charles Kite of Bulls Gap; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother: William J. Hope of Greeneville; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law: Ralph Hankins and Delores (Hankins) and Lawrence Southerland, all of Greeneville, and Marilyn (Hankins) and Lewis Powell of Church Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Edgar Hope and Ross Hope; and a sister: Velva Harmon.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Doughty-Stevens Chapel with interment in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Rev. Lowell Gammon and the Rev. Vernon Parkins will officiate.
