Son of James Eglinton Montgomery and his second wife, Mary Harrison White.

Thomas married Anna Morton, daughter of Samuel George Morton and Rebecca Grellet Pearsall on October 31, 1860.

The couple had at least nine (9) children: 1) Rebecca Morton Mongtomery (1862-). 2) Mary White Montgomery, 3) James Alan Montgomery, 4) Samuel George Morton Montgomery 5) Anna Morton Montgomery, 6) Thomas Harrison Montgomery Jr. (1873-1912). 7) William Montgomery, 8) Charles Mortimer Montgomery (1876-1932). and 8) Emily Hollingsworth Montgomery.
