Charles was a physcian. On the 1920 Census, he an officer at the V.A. Hospital in Oteen, North Carolina in Swannanoa Township in Buncombe County. On the 1930 Census, he is there as a patient, presumably tuberculosis as this was the cause of death. At the time of his death, Charles was a Captain in the Army Medical Corp, but a patient for several years at the V.A. Hospital in Oteen, North Carolina in Ashville Township. (Same hospital in Oteen, N.C., but listed in different township.)
His remains were transported to Philadelphia on March 4, 1932. His burial was recorded in the Church of the Epiphany (Philadelphia) Burial Records: buried March 7, 1932: Charles M. Montgomery, age 55, at St. James the Less.
