Anna Mary Eummelen was born to Jan Mathias and Anna Elisabeth (Demacker) Eummelen on July 25, 1860, in Lutterade, Geleen, Limburg Province, Holland. She desired to enter the convent in Holland however was persuaded to come to America with her family in 1878. She lived with them in St. Bernard, Nebraska, before entering the Order of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, as a postulant, o August 12, 1880. She received the habit of the novice and the name of Sister M. Elizabeth 1 yr later, August 5, 1881, made her profession of vows on the 12th of August 1883, and on the 14th of August 1886, made her final profession.
She was engaged in domestic work throughout her religious life, which was spent in various convents in Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. She enjoyed making fancy holy cards and “Agave Deis”. Several of her vacations were spent in California visiting members of her family. On June 30, 1931, she celebrated her golden jubilee at St. Francis Convent, Joilet, Illinois. Her death occurred on September 9, 1933, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Joliet. She was buried in St. John’s Cemetery, Joliet.
