The Tomahawk Leader, Thurs Feb 10, 1955 Front page col 7 Frank Dewingm, 74, a member of the Tomahawk fire department for 46 years and fire chief for six years, died Monday morning at Sacred Heart hospital. He had been ill for several months.
He joined the 22-man volunteer force Feb 6, 1907. He was named assistant fire chief in 1919 and became chief Jan 1, 1946. He also served as a hose captain. Mr Dewing helped fight two of the city's worst blazed - the Mitchell hotel fire March 6, 1929, and the city hall fire Christmas day, 1948.
He resigned from the department Dec 3, 1952.
The son of the late Mr and Mrs Cliff Dewing, he was born Nov 10, 1880 at White Creek, Wis. The family came to Tomahawk about 60 years ago. Mr Dewing and the former Helen Waterman were married here Oct 23, 1906. His wife died in September, 1940.
