Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Corporal in Company H, 9th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on October 8, 1861. He then rose steadily the in the Company's ranks, achieving Sergeant on March 10, 1862, re-enlisting on January 18, 1864, and being promoted to 1st Sergeant on July 2m 1864, Two days after being named the company's top enlistment man, he was commissioned as it's 2nd Lieutenant. He served in this duty through the end of the conflict, commanding Company H after Captain Charles Hufty died of wounds in March 1865. After the war was over he was officially promoted to Captain (June 22, 1865), and was honorably mustered out on July 7, 1865.

Obituary published in Penns Grove, NJ newspaper "The Penns Grove Record" on Friday, April 20th 1906:
"David Kille, aged 70, for years a resident of this community, died late on Sunday afternoon after a brief illness. On Monday of last week he was stricken with paralysis and never regained consciousness. Mr. Kille has been engaged in farming for a number of years, but in March last, moved into town. The funeral services were held at his late home on Wednesday morning. Interment at Centre Square. A widow and family of adult sons and daughters mourn his loss."
