A native of Biella, Piedmont, Italy, Father Guglielmo Barberis was ordained to the priesthood on May 25, 1877. Joining the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem the following year, he was named pro-master of ceremonies of the Patriarchate in 1889, and directed the construction of the first seminary of Jerusalem. Chancellor of the Patriarchate, he died of stomach cancer at 51 years of age.
