Canton, Pa., July 21 - Mrs. Fanny Elizabeth Davenport, widow of the actor, E. L. Davenport, died here last night from the effects of an operation which was performed last Friday. She leaves four daughters and two sons, Fanny Davenport McDowell, Mrs. Florence Pierce, Mrs. William Seymour, and Miss Blanche, Edgar, and George Bryant. They were all present at her bedside except Mrs. Seymour. Mrs. Davenport was a well-known actress.

Mrs E. L. Davenport, widow of E. L. Davenport, one of the best actors of his day, died Monday evening in Canton Pennsylvania, at the Davenport Homestead, the summer home of her daughter Miss Fanny Davenport, where she had been suffering from a cancer for several weeks. Mrs. Davenport was 62 years of age and a native of London England, where she was born on July 6, 1829.
Mrs Davenports maiden name was FANNY ELIZABETH VINING, and she was the daughter of FREDRICK VINING, who was the manager of the Haymarket Theatre of London, at the time of her birth. Her professional education began when she was 3 yrs old, when she was pressed into service as a stage baby. She spent a few years at a boarding school and made her debut as a actress in 1847, playing Juliet to G. V. Brookes Romeo and her fathers Meroutio. Miss Vining continued to play leading parts at the Haymarket and the Drury Lane Theatres with Charles Kean and William C. McCready and other distinguished actors until Jan 8 1849, when she was married to Edward Loomis Davenport, one of the best actors the American stage has produced, and came with him to this country, temporarily retiring from the profession.
Mrs. Davenport made her first appearance in this county at the old Broadway Theatre Sept. 11, 1854 when she played Margaret Elmore in "Loves Sacrifice". After this she supported her husband in many of his starring engagements, appearing in all the principal cities of the United States. Mr. Davenport died at the Canton Homestead Sept. 1, 1877 and then Mrs. Davenport permanently retired from the stage. No arrangements have been completed for the funeral, but her remains will probably be buried beside her husband in Boston.
