Pvt. Robert Bell served 1st Alabama Calvary (Union) as did his brothers John, James and Francis from Winston County, Alabama. Only brother Henry joined the Confederacy by going to Choctaw County Mississippi to enlist with his cousin Andrew Lowrimore. Robert, his sister Eliza, and his father James B. Bell all wrote letters to Henry in Mississippi trying to convince him not to join the Confederacy and fight against the flag his ancestors had fought and shed blood to establish.
Henry turned those letters over to the Governor of Alabama naming his family as traitors to the Confederacy in Winston County, Alabama. Those Bell family letters are in the State Archives.George Robert Bell 1833-1864 was the husband of Sarah Ann York 1830-deceased. They were married 09 Feb 1854 by William M. Roden (Minister), and their marriage witnesses were William York and Eliza Bell Tyler.Their children were :James Robert Bell 1854-deceasedJohn W.
