RUSH CENTER - Norman K. Hemken, 90, died Dec. 6, 2012. He was born Dec. 12, 1921, son of John George and Lena Ida (Becker) Hemken.

He married Mae Belle Parker Jan. 14, 1945. She died Aug. 6, 2005. He married Doris Jean Nicks Feb. 23, 2008. She survives with sons, Michael, Stanley, Wesley and Harvey; brother, Ernest; sister, Edna Maki; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. with family present 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse. Visitation 9 to 9:50 a.m. and Funeral 10 a.m. Monday at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center.

Norman K. Hemken, 90, Rush Center, Kansas, died Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.
Mr. Hemken was born December 12, 1921, in Rural Rush County, Kansas, the son of John George and Lena Ida (Becker) Hemken. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1941 graduate of La Crosse Rural High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he was an elevator operator at the Farmer's Co-op, Nekoma, Kansas before his retirement.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Lions Club and a member of the Walnut Valley Senior Center, all of Rush Center, Kansas. He also was a member of the Lions Club, Otis, Kansas, Rush County VFW Post #3147, delivered Friendship Meals for many years, and was a Lions Club Past District Governor.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy on the USS Core.

On January 14, 1945, he married Mae Belle Parker at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas. She preceded him in death August 6, 2005. On February 23, 2008, he married Doris Jean Nicks at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas

Survivors include: his wife, Doris Jean Hemken, Rush Center, Kansas; four sons, Michael D. Hemken, and his wife, Judy, Clayton, Indiana, Stanley A. Hemken, and his wife, Cindy L., Choctaw, Oklahoma, Wesley J. Hemken, and his wife, Jana S., Rush Center, Kansas, and Harvey J. Hemken, and his wife, Lori L., Winona, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Timothy S. Hemken, Del City, Oklahoma, Heather M. Hemken, Clayton, Indiana, Eric M. Hemken, Columbus, Ohio, Shawn P. Visitation will be Sunday, December 9, 2012, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A prayer service will be at 7:00 P.M. Church visitation will be Monday, December 10, 2012, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Monday, December 10, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas, with Reverend Patricia Reep officiating. Interment will be in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Rush Center, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas, or the Walnut Valley Senior Center, Rush Center, Kansas.
