Ethel Morton
Ethel M. Morton, 101, Topeka, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at a Topeka retirement home.

She was born July 6, 1901, in Pottawatomie County, to Jasper and Rose Thomas Fink. She spent her early life in Manhattan and graduated with honors from Manhattan High School in 1919. She had been a county assessor several years. She was employed as a clerk by the Kansas Motor Vehicle Department for 10 years. She lived in Topeka since 1923.

She had been a volunteer for the Red Cross during World War II and at Forbes Air Base during World War II.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 65 years, a member of Helena Chapter No. 210 of Order of Eastern Star for 50 years and a member of Daughters of Union Veterans. She was a certified tutor at the International House for Laubach English.

She married J.C. Morton in 1921. He died in 1977. A daughter, Shirley Helen Morton, died in 1931. Another daughter, Marjean Landon, died in 1980.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Metz, Topeka; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Morton will lie in state at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet after 10 a.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Presbyterian Manor, 4712 W. 6th, 66606, or to First Presbyterian Church, 817 Harrison, 66603.
