Joseph Clare Morton,
79, Topeka, died Thursday at an Osage County convalescent Center. He was born March 18, 1897 at Bunker Hill, Kansas. He was chief clerk, auditor of accounts for Santa Fe Railway Co. until his retirement in 1963. A daughter, Shirley H. Morton, died in 1931.
He married Ethel M. Think (sic) on June 12, 1921 at Manhattan. She survives. Other survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Marjean M. Landon and Mrs. Janet C Metz, both of Topeka; a sister, Clara Morton, Russell; 2 brothers, Charles L. Morton, Wheatland, Calif. and Ray E. Morton, Overland Park; and 6 grandchildren.

He was a life member of Capitol Post No. 1 American Legion; a member of First Presbyterian Church; a 50 year member of Odd Fellows Lodge; a member of Lodge 17 AF&AM, Scottish Rite bodies; Helena Chapter 210, Order of Eastern Star; life member of Kansas State Alumni Assoc.; and Jayhawk Barracks 113 Veterans of World War I.

Scottish Rite bodies will hold memorial services Monday at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. America Legion Capitol Post No. 1 will hold graveside services.
