Babcock— Died at the home of his son, Clarence L. Babcock, at Tenn., Jun 16th, Leman B. Babcock, aged 86 years. He is survived by four sons, Edward Vose Babcock, mayor of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Fred R. Babcock of the same city, Oscar H. Babcock of Georgia, and Clarence L. Babcock, at whose
home he died; also one daughter, Mrs. L Babcock VanHuss of Volney. The remains will arrive in Fulton this evening and will be taken to the Babcock homestead, funeral services will be held Thursday; interment in Mt. Adnah. The deceased was the son of Jesse and Emaline Babcock, early pioneers of the town of Volney, and was born on the Babcock homestead, just east of the city limits, in the town of Volney, Oct 30, 1833. He married Miss Harriet Vose of Westerly, R.I.,at the age of 25 years. Mrs. Babcock died Jan. 30, 1904. The eldest son, Weedy, died at the age of two years and nine months. The other five children, named above, are all living, the sons successful businessmen,, and the daughter, Mrs. VanHuss, resides on the homestead. During the major portion of the life of Mr Babcock he has been a practical, successful farmer. The homestead farm was noted for its early produce that found a successful market in Fulton and Syracuse, Mr. Babcock for many years started his two-horse load of produce for Syracuse and was the first grower on the public market.
