After graduating high school she joined the United States Navy where she later met her husband John C. Howell, they were married in July of 1944, and together they raised four children.
Once discharged from the Navy the newly weds moved to St. Louis, where Ruth worked as the head bookkeeper for Beiderman's Furniture. They came to Joplin in 1963, where she became a stay at home mom and spent much of her time gardening, raising dogs and farm animals.
Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her husband;, two sisters Helen and Ruby Wade;, and a brother Harold Wade.
She is survived by her daughters, Jane Carr and husband, Dennis, of Pittsburg, Kan., Anna Monteleone and husband, Mark, of Carl Junction, Mo.;, and two sons, John Howell and wife, Susan, of Joplin, and Roger Howell and wife, Debbie, of Jasper, Mo., 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.
No formal services are scheduled, the family will have a private internment at a later date.
