Rebecca is ALLEGED by a number of Maxson family interests to be sister to the famous Ann (Marbury) Hutchinson. PLEASE NOTE: Although there is no shortage of speculation concerning a possible family connection between Rebecca Goodwife Maxson and Ann Hutchinson, the very simple fact is NO EVIDENCE EXISTS as to Rebecca's maiden name. This fact was duly noted by the late Jane H. Maxson, former secretary of the Maxson Family Association, and edited by David Maxson in 2007. It had not changed as of the family association's last reunion in 2019, nor is it likely to be changed today.
Don't kid yourself by relying on this alleged but HIGHLY UNLIKELY connection with the Marbury family of Alford, Lincolnshire being somehow based on genuine scholarship. It might be fun to speculate that Rebecca and Ann are family, and I might sound as though I'm telling you there's no Santa Claus. But if you build your family tree on this kind of information, you're building it on shifting sands and wishful thinking.
If you want to know what is REALLY KNOWN and, more importantly, what really ISN'T KNOWN about Richard the Blacksmith and his "Goodwife," please contact me -- Tom Brown, son of Helen Maxson Brown and 10th great grandson of Richard & Rebecca.
BTW -- what is known does not exactly fill volumes!
