Mrs. Henrietta Merriss, Muskogee Pioneer, Dies

Mrs. Henrietta Merriss, 55, resident of Muskogee for 50 years before moving to Fort Gibson about a year ago, died in a local hospital yesterday afternoon following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Merriss was the widow of C. W. Merriss, who died two years ago. She was a member of the Christian Science church here. Survivors are a brother, Ellis Drake of California, and two cousins, Dan Averyt and Morris Turner, both of Tulsa.

Arrangements for the funeral are incomplete, and will be announced by the Thornton funeral home.

Funeral services for Henrietta Merris, 55, of Fort Gibson, who died in a local hospital Saturday, will be conducted at the Thornton chapel Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, with R. H. Phinney, reader, officiating. Interment will be in Greenhill cemetery. Pallbearers will be J. M. Ragsdale, J. T. Hardwell, William Hanks, Willie Delcour and Everett Decour, all of Fort Gibson, and T. W. Green of Muskogee.
