Sammie was the fourth of ten children born Henry Mitchell and Tera Eola Larkins Loggins. The oldest child died in infancy.
When she was a young girl the family moved from Humphreys County, Tennessee to Dyer County. After their arrival, her mother gave birth to triplets. Sammie, as a girl of twelve, was responsible for caring for one of the triplets.
On November 30, 1906, she married Luther Egbert Farrar. She and Luther had three children: Henry Lafayette Farrar (1907-1970), William Lee "Bill" Farrar (1909-1972), Adiola Farrar Cowan (1911-1991).
