Andrew was the sixth child of the known children born to Stephen Allen. Andrew is born in 1831 in Lee, Oneida County, NY [1915 Oneida County, NY almshouse census]. His obituary says he was born in 1829. Andrew's father was one of the founding fathers of Lee. His mother is Eleanor "Ellen" Kenyon Allen; her first name has been stated to be "Mary" but no evidence has been found to corroborate this. Ellen is shown to have had eight children [1865 New York census].

Andrew's dad - Stephen was born about 1789 in Connecticut. Stephen was a farmer and a farm laborer. Stephen dies at the age of 84 in Lee Centre (spelling per his obituary) on May 3, 1873. No FG memorial found.
Andrew's mom - Ellen is born about 1792, in Rhode Island [1865 New York census]. Previously it was stated that Ellen was a child of Wells and Elisabeth Stillman Kenyon but no evidence has been found to corroborate this. Also other researched trees show a different Ellen Kenyon who weds a Roswell Streeter, lives, dies and is buried in Illinois. Kenyon is a name found in Oneida County, New York, during Stephen and Ellen's lifetime; perhaps future research could possibly show Ellen is related to them. Ellen likely passed away before 1870 in Oneida County, New York as she is present in husband Stephen's household in 1865 but not in 1870. No FG memorial found.

Stephen Allen's children were all likely born in Oneida County near Lee.
1) Sarah "Sally" - born 10 Sep 1814 [calculated from age and death date on gravestone] in Oneida County, New York [1865 NY census]. She marries Alonzo Byam (1807-1867; FG memorial 12958259). They had six known children including Jay Byam who, as a lawyer, figures prominently into several sources for his many family members. Sally died 10 May 1873 at the age of 58; FG memorial 12958263; buried in Lee Valley Cemetery, Lee, Oneida County, NY. Mystery - according to a published Byam family history, Sally's mother was a Miss Fox.
2) Mary - born between 1816 - 1818 in Oneida County, New York [1865 NY census]. She married John Fox (1810-1855; FG memorial 12836351). They had eight children. Between the 1855 death of her husband John and 1860, Mary likely was married and widowed a second time. In the 1860, 1870 and 1880 US federal censuses, she appears as Mary Cross in households where she is living with at least one of her Fox children. It is unknown who Mr. Cross was. Mary passes away on 04 Aug 1890 at the age of 75 in Lee Center, Oneida County, New York. No FG memorial found.
3) Harriet - born 16 May 1817 in Oneida County, New York [1865 NY census]. She marries Abraham "Abram" Fox (1806-26 Apr 1888; FG memorial 129517630). Abraham is the brother of Harriet's brother-in-law, John Fox. Harriet and Abraham had five children. Harriet passed away on 24 Nov 1878, in Lee Center, Oneida County, New York at the age of 61; FG memorial 12836340; buried in Hall Cemetery, Lee, Oneida County, New York.
4) William - born December 1823 in Oneida County, New York [1865 New York census]. He marries Melinda Tharratt (1827-1910; FG memorial 12957934). They had two children. William passes away on 02 March 1909 at the age of 85; FG memorial 12957936 ; buried in Lee Valley Cemetery, Lee, Oneida County, NY.
5) George C. - born about 1826 in New York [1850 US census]. He marries Eliza Loretta Lyman (1829-1910; FG memorial 166108754). They had four children. George passes away on 28 Oct 1862 at the age of 36; FG memorial 12836128 ; buried in Hall Cemetery, Lee, Oneida County, NY.
6) Andrew - born between 1831 in Lee, Oneida County, New York [1915 Oneida County (NY) Almshouse census]. He marries Julia A. Rogers (1832-1898; FG memorial 12957930). They had two children. Andrew dies in 1919 (FG memorial 102332220].

Note about the brothers Abraham and John Fox, who are respectively married to sisters Harriet and Mary - The Fox's are the relatives of many Fox people in Oneida County in their lifetime. The Fox men descend from the Fuchs and Fox people who emigrated from Palatinate Germany in the 1700s to Montgomery County, New York.

Who is the mother of Stephen Allen's children?
From the 1820 to 1850 censuses, he is shown to have a wife and six children. The first three known children are daughters born between 1814 and as late as 1818. Then a gap of up to five years occurs before Stephen's three sons are born between 1823 and 1831. Because the published Byam family history states Sarah's mother was a Miss Fox, this opens the question as to whether Ellen Kenyon Allen is the mother of all of Stephen's children. One other mystery is the presence of a Betsy Fox, age 88, living in the 1870 household of Harriet Allen Fox's household. To date no connection has been found between Betsy Fox and the family of Harriet's husband, Abraham Fox. Could this Betsy Fox be a relative of Sarah's supposed mother Miss Fox, wife of Stephen Allen? There are many Fox lines in Oneida County, New York in the 1800s; one line comes from England through Connecticut to Oneida County, NY; one comes from Germany to Oneida County, NY; and another comes from Palatinate Germany in the 1700s to Montgomery County, NY with some moving to Oneida County, NY.

Andrew marries Julia A. Rogers; they had two known children:
1) Sarah Eva "Eva" Allen - born 1857 in Lee, Oneida County, NY. She first is married in 1873 to Michael Kennedy (1849-1879); they had two known children (Catherine Helena "Lena" Kennedy Watson (1873-1965) and Genevieve J. "Jennie" Kennedy Bronner (1877-1953)). Eva is next married in 1882 to John "Honey" Best (1859-1939); they had two known children (Sarah "Laddie" Best Huff (born ~1885) and Harry Eugene Best (wife Alta M. Drum; 1890-1977). Eva dies 30 Oct 1894 in Utica, Oneida County, NY.
2) James Eugene "Eugene" Allen - born Nov 1860 in Oneida County, NY. James marries in 1882 to Emma E. Gregoire (1861-1956). They had one known child, Emmagene (1883-1883). James dies 17 Jun 1909 in Lee Center, Oneida County, NY.

Andrew's wife:
Julia A. Rogers, daughter of James and Anna Eva "Eva-Eve" Campbell Rogers. Julia is born 1832 in Rome, Oneida County, NY [1865 NY census]. She dies 23 Aug 1898 in Lee Center, Oneida County, NY. She is buried in Lee Valley Cemetery in Lee, Oneida County, NY.

Andrew was a carpenter as were his two other brothers; except in 1880, when Andrew is working as a mechanic. Andrew grows up in Lee.
1860 - Andrew, Julia and their children are living in Lee.
1865 - Andrew, Julia and their children are living in Lee with his parents next to the families of some of his siblings.
1870 - Andrew, Julia and their children are living in Lee with his father (who is likely a widower) next to the families of some of his siblings and several Fox, and possibly Kenyon, cousins.
1880 - Andrew, Julia, their children and Eva's children are living in Lee (Eva is a widow) next to the families of some of his siblings and some Fox cousins.
1900 and 1910 - Andrew (widower) is living with his granddaughter Catherine Helena "Lena" Kennedy Watson and her family in Constantia, Oswego County, NY. His grandson-in-law Everett Watson is a glass blower by trade.
1915 - Andrew is living in the Oneida County Almshouse due to old age. As contacts, he lists his nephew J(ay) F(rancis) Byam (lawyer) of Rome, NY; his granddaughter Lena Watson; and a ?Comby? Graves of Rome, NY (unknown if related to Andrew).
1919 - Andrew dies and is buried in the Bronner plot in Deck, Herkimer County, NY. The Bronner plot is the family of his grandson-in-law, Latha Bronner. Latha and Andrew's granddaughter Genevieve J. "Jennie" Kennedy Bronner are also buried near Andrew.
