EMPORIA MAN KILLED WHEN TRUCK OVERTURNS
IKE HARRISON VICTIM OF ACCIDENT SATURDAY--WAVE OF OTHER MISHAPS OCCURS
Wilbur Ike Harrison, 40, colored, of 1227 Sylvan, was killed about 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon when a 1941 Chevrolet pickup he was driving overturned on a township road, 2 miles northwest of Emporia.
Mr. Harrison, an employee of the Rich Coal company was returning to Emporia after having delivered a load of coal to the Ed Atkinson farm. According to highway patrolmen who investigated the accident, the truck headed south on the road extending northward from the Highway 50S Detour, west of the fairgrounds, apparently struck loose gravel before it headed in the opposite direction and overturned. Mr. Harrison was found beneath the cab of the truck. Officers said a chicken with legs tied was found near the truck. The supposition is that the driver's attention may have been diverted to the flapping chicken in the cab, causing him to lose control of the truck.
Wilbur Ike Harrison was born in Emporia on July 4th, 1907. Mr. Harrison, a bachelor, is survived by his mother, Mrs. William L. Harrison, of the home; six brothers, William Henry Harrison, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Samuel J. Harrison, David Homer Harrison, Otis B. Harrison, LeRoy Harrison, Lester Junior Harrison, all of Emporia; two sisters, Mrs. Maude D. Mitchell and Mrs. Pearl Allen of Emporia.
Funeral services will be held at the McVey Chapel at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. Services will be in charge of the Rev. Clarence Davis. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
