Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Vern A. Clark, 85, passed away in the Ogden Veterans Center, surrounded by his family, Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, of natural causes after several months of declining health.
Vern was the middle child born to John and Martha Clark on Sept. 5, 1927, in Liberty, Utah. He spent his growing-up years in Ogden with his two brothers and five sisters where they made many wonderful memories together. Vern attended and graduated from Weber High School in 1946. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He met his sweetheart of 57 years, Carol Corey, in Ogden. They were married Nov. 17, 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in 1962. They resided in Smithfield for more than 40 years, where Vern was involved with the Smithfield community and participated in many church and athletic events. They moved to Logan in 1992, where they resided since. In later years, Vern and Carol spent their winters in St. George.
Vern was an avid Aggie booster. He supported Utah State athletics and was a member of the Big Blue Club for 55 years. He was also an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two missions with his wife, first to Tulsa, Okla., and then at the Deseret Industries in Logan.
Carol was Dad's number one priority. He so much loved spending time with his sweetheart Carol, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Vern was a real family man. His entire life centered around them and their activities. He was a great provider. He owned and operated Vern's Dairy System and Supply for 30 years. He made sure that every family member learned the importance of work. He taught this principle by precept and example.
He loved people and made many great friends wherever he went. He loved sports. He had USU basketball and football season tickets for over 55 years. He was a true Aggie and was always proud to be an Aggie. He loved attending the many athletic events with his wife Carol and they loved being there with family and friends. He visited almost every major league baseball park in the country. He was always on the go. Vern and Carol enjoyed exploring new places and they were always up for a new adventure.
When Carol passed away four years ago, Dad was lost and missed her immensely, but now they are together again and a new adventure begins. We will miss him, but we are thankful for the many years of love and guidance, and the time we spent with Dad and Mom will be treasured forever.
Vern is survived by his children Scott Clark of Smithfield, Doug (Susan) Clark of Ogden, Karen (Fran) Stone of North Logan, Curtis (Jackie) Clark of Hyde Park, Brent Clark of Smithfield and SueAnn (LaVal) Jensen of North Logan; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and brother Jack (Karen) Clark of Ogden. He was preceded in death by his grandson Robert Clark.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at the Logan City Cemetery with Bishop Jeff Larsen conducting. Friends may visit with family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. in Logan. Services are entrusted to Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.
